SERVICE BULLETINS
We have added a new button to the front page on our web site:
www.gpasc.com - Service Bulletins.

Service Bulletin Number One we featured in the Beetle Flyer last year. Some builders had confusion about which hole to drill out to check for oil to the #4 main bearing. The photos on the web site are in color and show the plug as removed as well as the hole to drill and tap.

Service Bulletin Number Two: concerns the tapered spacer that is pressed onto the Type 4 crankshaft. There have been two incidences where the prop hub unscrewed on the crankshaft. We are studying this to see if it is a coincidence or if it will be an occurrence.

With a Type 4, 66mm or 71mm crankshaft, the problem seems to have occurred shortly after the prop hub had been removed. If the tapered spacer stays in your prop hub when the hub is pulled, the spacer has to be pressed back on to the crankshaft. The Prop Hub bolt should be installed with blue Locktite and torqued to 64 ft. lbs.

We are looking at a solution that eliminates the tapered spacer altogether. This winter we will test a Type 4 crankshaft that has the nose welded up and then ground to a taper to fit the Force One Prop Hub (see picture).

This applies to Type 4 engines only that are 2400cc or 2459cc in displacement. Please check our web site for updates.

If you have a concern with either of these Service Bulletins, give us a call.
