THE

The Affordable VW Powered Bi-Plane!

WHAT IT IS AND WHAT IT IS NOT

The Easy Eagle I Bi -Plane was designed in 1997. It is a proven airframe design combining 4130 chrome-moly tubing and wooden spars and ribs. The Easy Eagle Bi-Plane will carry one person, minimal baggage and 12 gallons of fuel. It goes cross country and cruises at 100 mph. It will do mild aerobatics. It will take off, climb, cruise, land and stop at the numbers published herein.

The Easy Eagle I Bi -Plane is not considered to be New Wave technology. It is not a composite, paper/glass, or foam aircraft. It is an ultra-light aircraft. A Pilots License or Sport Pilots License is required to fly the Easy Eagle I Bi -Plane. The Easy Eagle I Bi -Plane is not a Semi-Truck. Weight is critical to the published performance specifications. The Easy Eagle I Bi -Plane will not cruise at 200 mph. It will not climb at 2000 fpm. REMEMBER! The Maximum horsepower allowed on the Easy Eagle I Bi -Plane is 85 HP. You will not do serious aerobatics on a 85 HP non-inverted VW Aero conversion!

In summary, the Easy Eagle Bi-Plane is a very well mannered, controllable aircraft. It has gentle stall characteristics, modest takeoff, climb, cruise and landing speeds. It will provide transportation for one individual, minimal baggage and enough fuel for 300 miles of cross country flight all for a very reasonable monetary outlay.

BUILDING THE EASY EAGLE: CAN I DO IT?

The Easy Eagle I Bi -Plane will require you to learn basic welding, metal working, and fabric covering/ finishing skills. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the most difficult, the Easy Eagle Bi-Plane is about a 4 or 5 - or average. Welding skills are easily learned and accomplished with practice. The Experimental Aircraft Association publishes several good manuals on metal working, welding and fabric covering. In addition, they sell excellent instructional videos on the same subjects. There are workshops at the EAA Airshows to assist in your learning the processes required to build the Easy Eagle I Bi -Plane. The EAA can be reached at 1-920-426-4800 for further information. To order How to Books and Videos, contact EAA at 1-800-843-3612. You can also obtain guidance from your local EAA Chapter Members. To find information about local chapters go to www.eaa.org. Once you make the decision to start building, we suggest that you plan and keep an enforced work schedule. By setting a specific amount of time to work and specific goals for each work period, you will complete your Easy Eagle I Bi -Plane. The average Easy Eagle I Bi -Plane takes 400 hours of labor to complete. If you can contribute one hour a day and two hours each on Saturday and Sunday, your Easy Eagle I Bi -Plane will be completed in 1 year. The largest stumbling block to building time and performance is modification of the aircraft. We ask that you do not modify the aircraft. Do not get carried away with instruments, radios, lights and other accessories. It takes grams to make pounds and pounds will adversely effect the performance and pleasure of the Easy Eagle I Bi -Plane flight. Make it light and make it right!
