Great Plains "Top Bug" Engine Kits are 100% complete down to the last washer and nut. These kits are the most complete kits available in the industry! Each kit is complete with all machine work done, so all you have to do is the final assembly. Each engine comes complete with a detailed Engine Assembly Manual full of pictures and text, covering every aspect of engine assembly.
Short Block Kits include the engine case and all components inside the case.
A Short Block Kit is used if your case has cracked or warped -- or you have experienced a prop strike.
The Long Block Kits include the entire engine from the valve covers to the crankshaft. A complete engine kit.

SHORT BLOCK ENGINE KITS - TYPE 1
Great Plains Aircraft Short Block Engine Kits are available for all popular displacements. Each kit contains the parts necessary to build the bottom end of the engine.
The 1600 - 1915 kits features a stock 1045 steel Forged VW OEM original crankshaft the has been re-machined .010" or .020" on the mains and rods.
The 2180 kit feature our E4340 crankshaft that is made specifically for Great Plains Aircraft. This crank features standard rod and main bearing journals, milled key way for the prop hub, and a horizontally milled key way for the timing gears that is 180 degrees from the prop hub key.
In addition, all kits include 100% new engine cases, main bearings, cams, oil pump etc.
The 1600 - 1915 kits feature either a shrink fit prop hub or the standard tapered prop hub.
The 2180 kit feature the Force One Prop Hub and Main Bearing.
All machine work is completed.
You simply assemble the parts using our Engine Assembly Manual.
