CAN I ASSEMBLE IT?
A very good question...
We think the answer is a resounding "Yes!"
You have undertaken perhaps the largest and most detailed oriented project of your life by accepting the challenge to build and successfully fly your own aircraft. For most builders it is an exciting and challenging period of life. The sense of accomplishment and self esteem you will gain from this accomplishment will last a life time.
The assembly of the engine can be just another challenge in the building your aircraft. We know from talking to customers that have built their own aircraft and assembled their own engine that the degree of confidence in their aircraft is higher. They have a better understanding of airframe and engine systems and are better prepared to troubleshoot and correct problems that will occur over the years. The biggest plus however is that most of them have a higher degree of confidence in their aircraft. They know what parts went into the engine, how the engine was assembled and just as important, who assembled it.
The average engine takes about 12 hours to assemble from start to finish. Two hours will be spent washing and cleaning parts. One hour will go to parts organization. Two hours will be spent dry assembling parts to fit for clearance checks and rotational checks. The additional 7 hours will be used for the actual "finish" assembly of the engine.
Our Engine Assembly Manual included with each engine kit is full of text and over 70 individual photos that take you through each step of engine assembly (updated Winter 1998). There is no better book in the world for assembling your VW conversion. You may order it before you order your engine kit to see if this is a project you wish to undertake.
The "VW Aero Assembly Manual" is only $9.95 plus $3.85 freight in the U.S & Canada (overseas $9.95 and $5.00 postage).
If you still feel uncomfortable, we can assemble, test run, crate and ship your complete engine to you for $989.00 (shipment in the continental U.S.). Yes, this includes pre-paid shipping!
