Great Plains Aircraft Front Drive Long Block Kits have set
the industry standard for the last 32 years. Our long block
engine kits are available from 1600cc up through 2276cc.
All engine kits feature proven, time tested components!
The NEW magnesium engine case is used in all of our kits. Engines up through the 1915cc use a NEW stock, forged 69mm CW crankshaft and are outfitted with either 85.5, 92, or 94mm pistons and cylinders. The correct camshaft is provided for the corresponding engine size to optimize the engines performance between 3200 to 3600 rpm. The new dual port cylinder heads are cc-d between 50 - 55cc and are leak tested. All of our kits come with dual port cylinders heads and are fitted with stainless steel intake and exhaust valves.
All major machine work that is necessary for the assembly of your engine has been completed for you when you purchase one of our engine kits. Depending upon the engine size, this may include: machining the case and heads for 92mm or 94mm cylinders, clearanced for stroke, and boring the #4 main bearing for the Force One Main Bearing, drilling and taping the #4 main bearing oil feed hole (this is completed for all cases). Drilling and taping for the oil temperature sender is optional.

All of our engines ship with our easy to read and understand Type 1 VW Engine Assembly Manual and DVD Set. This manual was written by us, specifically for the assembly of our Front Drive engine kits. This 64 page manual and corresponding DVDs, provide instructions for each step of the assembly and instructs the builder on how to assemble the motor and install the accessories. Also included is the formula to determine your compression ratio, service and maintenance procedures, and many tips on how to set up and operate the engine correctly. (The assembly manual is also used for the assembly of re-drive and flywheel drive engines, but is not specific to them.)
We have also incorporated a number of premium upgrades in all of our long block engine kits. This includes a 4140 steel cylinder head stud kit which is twice as strong than the stock VW stud kit, I beam connecting rods on stroker engines, new dual port cylinder heads and new forged rocker arms. All parts are 100% NEW!

All of the Great Plains Front Drive Long Block Engine Kits are furnished with the correct prop hub and any necessary machine work to the crankshaft and prop hub has been completed. Engines from 1600cc up to 1915cc use our Shrink Fit Prop Hub. Our 2180cc through 2276cc engines use our Force One Prop Hub and Main Bearing. The crankshaft we use in our 2180cc and 2276cc engines is superior to any other crankshaft used in VW powered aircraft! Check our web site (gpasc.com) for the complete history of Prop Hubs and Crankshafts. Our 82mm crankshaft is made from forged steel, machined, magnafluxed twice, nitrided and balanced. The business end of the crankshaft features a 1/2 inch fine thread versus the 20mm thread found on the standard crank on our competitor’s crank. The woodruff key for the prop hub is only .090 inch deep. Some competitors stroker cranks are standard aftermarket crankshafts built for use in automobiles. They are made to deliver power off the flywheel end of the crankshaft and were never intended for the rigors of driving a prop off the pulley end of a stroker engine.

When you are comparing VW engines and engine kits for use in your sport aircraft, pay close attention to the prop hub and crankshaft selection - especially on stroker engines, i.e., 2074cc, 2165cc, 2180cc and 2276cc engines. Our 82mm crankshaft is made specifically for aircraft use. It is not an automotive crankshaft with a shrink fit prop hub attached. This 82mm crankshaft and Force One Prop Hub were designed with 32 years of experience and thousands of hours of flight time behind the product, on hundreds of aircraft. Our experience has shown that shrink fit prop hub on stroker crankshafts do not stand the test of time.
