Our Great Plains Aircraft Front Drive Long Block Kits have set the industry standard other companies have attempted to follow. Our long block engine kits are available from 1600cc up through 2276cc. All engine kits are built from proven, time tested components!

All of our engines ship with our easy to read and understand Type One VW Engine Assembly Manual. This manual was written by us, specifically for the assembly of our engine kits. This 64 page manual, with photos for each step of the assembly, instructs the builder on how to assemble the motor and how to install the accessories. Also included is how to determine your compression ratio, service and maintenance procedures, and many tips on how to set up and operate the engine correctly. Plus - Our Assembly Manual 2 DVD set - is included!

The NEW engine case is available in either the standard magnesium or in aluminum. (Note: the aluminum case is 14 lbs. heavier.) Engines up through the 1915cc use a stock, forged 69mm German crankshaft and are outfitted with either 85.5, 92, or 94mm forged Mahle pistons and cast steel cylinders. The correct camshaft is provided for the corresponding engine size to optimize the engines performance at 3200 to 3600 rpm. The new dual port cylinder heads are cc-d to 50 cc-s and are leak tested. You can use the standard time proven 040 cylinder heads or upgrade to the 042 cylinders heads that have a slightly larger intake and exhaust valves. Remember, 98% of all components used in our popular kit engines are new!

All machine work that may be necessary for the assembly of your engine has been completed for you when you purchase one of our engine kits. Depending upon the engine size, this may include: machining the case and heads for 92mm or 94mm cylinders, clearanced for stroke, welding a plate behind #3 cylinder, welding and boring the #4 main bearing for the Force One Main Bearing, drilling and taping the #4 main bearing oil feed hold (this is completed for all cases), drilling and taping for the oil temperature sender.

We also offer a premium upgrade kit for any of our long block engine kits. This kit includes a 4140 steel cylinder head stud kit which is 200% stronger than the stock VW stud kit, SCAT I beam connecting rods, 042 cylinder heads with 39mm intake and 35mm exhaust valves, new forged rocker arms and an upgraded engine case kit. This upgrade is an additional $339.95 over our stock components.

All of the Great Plains Front Drive Long Block Engine Kits are furnished with the correct prop hub and any necessary machine work to the crankshaft and prop hub has been completed. Engines from 1600cc up to 1915cc use either our Shrink Fit Prop Hub or the Standard 3 Degree Tapered Hub. Our 2180cc through 2276cc engines use our Force One Prop Hub and Main Bearing. The crankshaft we use in our 2180cc to 2276cc engines is superior to any other crankshaft used in VW powered aircraft!

Our 82mm crankshaft is made from a forged billet of E4340 steel, machined and magnafluxed twice. The business end of the crankshaft features a 1/2 inch fine thread versus a 20mm thread found on the standard crank or our competitors cranks. The woodruff keys are milled flat into the crankshaft 180 degrees apart and are only .090 inch deep. Many competitors stroker cranks are standard aftermarket crankshafts built for use in automobiles. They are made to deliver power off the flywheel end of the crankshaft, and were never intended for the rigors of driving a prop off the pulley end of a stroker engine.

When you are comparing VW engines and engine kits for use in your sport aircraft, pay close attention to the prop hub and crankshaft selection - especially on stroker engines, i.e., 2074cc, 2165cc, 2180cc and 2276cc engines. Our 82mm crankshaft is made specifically for aircraft use by SCAT. It is not an automotive crankshaft with a shrink fit prop hub attached. This 82mm crankshaft and Force One Prop Hub were designed with 22 years of experience and thousands of hours of flight time behind the product, on hundreds of aircraft. Our experience has shown that shrink fit or standard tapered prop hubs on stroker crankshafts do not stand the test of time.
