Sonerai Parts

WHY A SONERAI?

1. Building Time. Any Sonerai model can be constructed in 800 to 1000 hours, scratch built. The building time can be decreased to 600 to 800 hours if a pre-welded fuselage is utilized.

Contact Specialty Welding at 920-293-8089.

2. Ease of Construction. The Sonerai's incorporate standard aircraft construction methods, including welding, riveting, dope and fabric application.

3. Versatility. The Sonerai's will cruise at 140 m.p.h. They take off and land at less than 60 m.p.h. Rolls, loops, eights on/around pylons, chandelles, and lazy eights can be performed in all Sonerai's. The Sonerai's incorporate good cross country speed, the ability to carry two adults (Sonerai II) with limited baggage, are capable of limited aerobatic maneuvers and have reasonable takeoff landing speeds and distances.

4. Cost to Build. The Sonerai Series of Sport Aircraft are among the least expensive homebuilt aircraft to build. We stress the word "AIRCRAFT". The airframe can be built for less than $6,000 excluding paint, and covering material. In addition to the airframe kit, you will need to purchase an engine, instruments and avionics of your choice. Average complete aircraft cost is $12,000, depending on engine selection.

5. Cost to Operate. In our biased opinion, no other aircraft can compete with the Sonerai. The reliable and economical VW based power plant will consume only 4 to 5 gallons of fuel per hour. Many of our "NEW" customers are past builders of the current popular all glass or all metal homebuilts that utilize aircraft engines and consume 8 to 15 GALLONS PER HOUR of fuel. They have found that the "High Performance Homebuilts" are great for long, fast cross country trips, but cost a fortune to operate. And don't forget hanger rental fees. The Sonerai's wings fold straight back along the fuselage in a matter of minutes. This can be easily accomplished by 1 person and then towed home on its own wheels or stored with other aircraft. With monthly hanger rent varying from $50 to $200, the Sonerai's are truly a cost effective and economical aircraft. Lycoming, Continental, Rotax and Subaru engines cannot be used on any Sonerai models.

6. Stability. You may think we are referring to aircraft stability. We are not. We are talking about COMPANY STABILITY. Great Plains has been involved in the sport aviation business since 1982 and is a recognized leader in VW conversions. Unfortunately, several companies involved in Sport Aviation are/were in it for the dollars only. These companies usually offered a marginal product at either a highly inflated or ridiculously low price. The end result is the same. The company vanishes leaving the customer with an unfinished, untried, often unsafe product.

7. Affordability. The Sonerai's are "Plans Built" aircraft. It can be purchased as you can afford it. Many parts are available pre-made such as: spars, ailerons, and landing gear. But parts can be purchased individually, or you have the option of making them.
